“Wow,” she breathed.
I smiled as she brushed the hair out of my eyes. How did she know that was exactly what I wanted at that moment?
“Yeah” I sighed into the crook of her shoulder. “I told you.”

It was strange to think that I could look forward to waking up with someone in my arms. Maybe that was why I kept reaching for her throughout the night, running my hands through her hair to make sure she was still with me. Or maybe it was the feeling that she might bail on me in the middle of the night—how ironic would that be?
The privilege of waking up with her was taken from me, though. The first streaks of sunlight were barely through the windows when I heard the banging at my door. I sat straight up, but the other side of the bed was already cold. It was reassuring that I heard her mumbling voice from the other room, though her rising tone and the increase of swearing wasn’t very reassuring.
“Violet?”
I reached for my boxer briefs on the floor and pulled them on when she walked back into the room, slamming the door behind her.
“You have to get up.” Much to my regret, she was already fully dressed. However, the worried look on her face bothered me much more than her lack of nakedness.
I smirked at her but she didn’t smile back. “I already am. Now get over here and help me with that.”
“I’m serious.” She threw my pants at me, swearing under her breath while she searched for her shoes. “The police are here. They have a warrant for your arrest.”
